After a long summer hiatus we’re back at the blog with updates & photos galore of Shepard’s first birthday.

Friday we head out to the Great Minnesota Get Together (aka state fair) where we’ll take in Garrison Keillor’s PHC after a trip to the Miracle of Birth Barn to see the baby animals, Sweet Martha’s for some cookies and a quick spin through the Midway where I intend to win a very large stuffed animal.
This summer was our first year participating in a CSA with Featherstone Farm. We loved the fresh veggies and splitting a “chica” share with our friends Mike & Andrea was definitely a smart move–there’s only so much bok choy a girl can cook!
After considering a run for city council in St. Louis Park, we decided instead that Colin would re-devote himself to creative writing. He’s been working on a few spec-scripts and we’ve managed to stay true to our commitment to find time for him to write every Monday for more than a month.
Soon the change of seasons will usher in bright orange leaves, weekends perfect for apple picking, and the comfort foods of fall.

This week we made a fantastic journey from Mpls to Oswego, IL (Colin’s hometown) to Inlet, NY in the Adirondacks. More photos to come soon.

18.5 lbs (15%)
28 3/4″ (taller than 3 out of 4 kids his age)
Shep’s 9 month check up went easy breezy with no shots. Shepard was most excited about the band-aid that came with his quick finger prick (lead screening).
We’re looking forward to our neighborhood ice cream social and enjoying the spoils of summer–the end of Minnesota’s legislative session, long days, bright blue skies and playing outside. Shep is particularly fond of our field of dandelions.
